How to Verify a Bag Factory in China (Use This On Us)

Every supplier says "real factory, 20 years, best quality." Here's the verification checklist that separates evidence from claims — and yes, we expect you to run it on us.

To verify a Chinese bag factory, ask for evidence you can check independently: a business license, third-party audit reports with auditor names and dates, material test reports (EN71, REACH), and verifiable social-compliance IDs. Then do a live video walk of the sewing floor and order a sample before bulk. A legitimate factory produces these within a day; evasion is itself an answer.

The five-step check

  1. Business licenseCompany name on the license should match the name on your invoice. Mismatches aren't always fraud — but they need an explanation you find satisfying.
  2. Third-party audit reportA real factory audit names the auditing firm, the date and the site address. Ask for the PDF, not a logo on a website. Ours: a third-party factory audit by Richforth (2018) — on request.
  3. Material test reportsEN71 (children's product safety) and REACH SVHC (EU chemical compliance) reports from accredited labs, with the tested material named. We hold both and share them with the lab names and dates visible.
  4. Verifiable compliance IDsSocial-compliance audits like amfori BSCI carry IDs that can be checked. Crucially: ask whose audit it is — honest suppliers state clearly whether it belongs to the factory itself or an affiliated site (see our BSCI transparency page for how we state ours).
  5. Live video walk + sampleAn unscheduled video tour of the actual sewing floor, then a sample — the one piece of evidence no trading company can fake. Sample terms on the sample page.

Trading company tells

The catalog sells everything

A factory is deep in one category; if the same "factory" offers bags, mugs, electronics and umbrellas, you're talking to a reseller. (Traders aren't evil — you just shouldn't pay factory-direct expectations for trader-tier control.)

Construction questions get vague answers

Ask how many sewing operations your bag takes, or what the mold fee for a rubber puller runs. A factory answers in specifics; a middleman goes quiet and "checks with the team".

The tour is always "next week"

A real factory can point a phone at the floor today.

Verification FAQ

Documents you can check (license, audits, test reports, verifiable IDs), a live video walk, and a sample. Evasion on any of these is itself the answer.

Category depth, license scope, instant video tours, and specific answers to construction questions.

Business license, third-party audit report, EN71/REACH test reports, and honest attribution of any compliance audits.

Strong but not sufficient alone — combine with documents and a physical sample.
