How to Choose a Backpack Manufacturer in China

Thousands of factories make backpacks. The right one for you depends on your quantity, your price tier and your construction — then on answers you can check. Here are the questions we would ask, and our own answers to compare against.

To choose a backpack manufacturer in China, match the factory to your order before you vet it: your quantity per style, your price tier and the construction your backpack needs. Then check five things: that backpacks are the factory's core category, that its MOQ fits your first order, that samples have clear fees and refund terms, that it quotes a lead time it can defend, and that its documents can be verified independently. A factory that answers all five in specifics within a day is worth a sample order.

Seven questions to ask every backpack factory

  1. How many backpack styles do you make now?A factory with a deep backpack range already holds patterns, trims and line experience close to yours. Ask for style codes and photos of current production, not catalog renders.
  2. What is your MOQ per style, and can colours be split?Factory MOQs typically run from a few hundred to 1,000+ pieces per style. Ask whether stock colours can be split within that quantity — custom-dyed fabric usually can't. More in MOQ explained.
  3. What does a sample cost, how long does it take, and is the fee refunded?Get the fee, the timeline and the refund rule in writing before you pay. Ours are on the sample process page.
  4. What is the bulk lead time after sample approval? For most custom backpacks: 25–30 days of production, then freight. A much shorter quote for a new style deserves an explanation. See production lead time.
  5. Which documents can I verify?Business license, a third-party audit report, test reports for your market, and compliance IDs with honest attribution of whose audit it is. The full method is in how to verify a bag factory.
  6. Which processes are in-house, and which are run by partners?Welding, specialist printing and dyeing are often done by partner plants. That is normal — what matters is that the factory tells you, and owns quality control on the finished bag.
  7. What do you need from me to quote?A good factory asks for your starting point (a style code, a photo of a style on the market, a physical sample or a tech pack), your quantity, your target price and your brand website — then quotes within one to two working days.

Backpack manufacturer FAQ

Match the factory to your order first (quantity, price tier, construction), then verify it: backpack specialization, an MOQ that fits, written sample terms, a lead time it can defend, and documents you can check independently. Order a sample before bulk.

Factory MOQs typically run from a few hundred to 1,000+ pieces per style. Ours is 1,000 pieces per style, and stock colours can often be split within it.

At 1,000+ pieces, most custom backpacks cost USD 2-15 per piece, driven by fabric, construction complexity, logo method and packaging.

About 1-2 weeks for the sample, 25-30 days for bulk production after sample approval, then roughly 30-40 days door-to-door by sea or 5-8 days by air.

Agents help when you cannot vet suppliers yourself or need many product categories at once, and they add a margin. For one category at 1,000+ pieces, working direct gives you the shortest line to the pattern room and the production floor.
